Jesper Nordin
Jesper Nordin (b. 1971) is a leading Swedish composer who has garnered consid- erable international
acclaim in recent years. His music, with its powerful emotional impact and traces of Swedish folk
music, rock and improvised music, is broadcast and performed throughout the world, by conductors
and soloists such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding and Kent Nagano, and Martin Fröst, Malin
Broman and Pekka Kuusisto. His orchestral works have been played and/or commissioned by orchestras
such as the San Francisco Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Frankfurt Radio
Symphony and the Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2014 the  Royal  Stockholm  Philharmonic  Orchestra  
highlighted  the  music  of  Jesper Nordin during a four-day portrait festival. Works by Nordin
also form part of the repertoire of several of the world’s foremost contemporary music ensembles,
among them Ensemble Intercontemporain, L’Itineraire and ensemble recherche.
Jesper Nordin’s music has been performed at numerous festivals, including ManiFeste, Wittener Tage
für Neue Kammermusik, ISCM, Musiques en Scène and Huddersfield. Among the various awards he has
received is the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s Greater Christ Johnson Award (in 2010) for being
‘a sound magician, who explores and expands the acoustic space with originality and an un-
compromising curiosity’. Nordin studied at the Royal College of Music in Stock- holm with Pär
Lindgren, Bent Sørensen and William Brunson, before taking further studies at IRCAM with Philippe
Leroux and finally at Stanford with Brian Ferney- hough.
As a developer he has founded the music tech startups Gestrument & Reactional Music that have
released apps and interactive music technology for video games.
