Baldur Brönnimann



The Swiss conductor Baldur Brönnimann became the principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música in 2015, following a long-standing relationship with the orchestra, and in 2016 took up the post of principal conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta. From 2011 until 2015 he was artistic director of the BIT20 Ensemble. Brönnimann works closely with composers such as John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, Harrison Birtwistle, Unsuk Chin and Thomas Adès, and with orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Phil harmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Highlights of Brönnimann’s opera career include Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre with La Fura dels Baus at English National Opera and the Teatro Colón, John Adams’s Death of Klinghoffer at English National Opera and Kaija Saariaho’s L’amour de loin with the Norwegian Opera at the Bergen International Festival. www.baldur.info
