Alan Buribayev



Alan Buribayev is chief conductor of the Astana Opera, Kazakhstan. From 2010 to 2016 he was chief conductor of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and prior to that he held chief conductor roles with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Het Brabants Orkest and the Meiningen Theatre.
He has conducted the NHK Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus, NDR Hamburg Symphony, Barcelona Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Basel Symphony, Stavanger Symphony and Ulster Orchestras, as well as the St Gallen Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Belgrade Philharmonic, St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Russian National Orchestras, and the Deutsches Symphony Orchestra in Berlin.

Buribayev was born in 1979 to a family of musicians; his father is a cellist and conductor and his mother is a pianist. He graduated with honours from the Kazakh State Conservatory as both violinist and conductor, and continued his conducting studies at the University of Music in Vienna with Uroš Lajovic. His victory at the Lovro von Matačić Conducting Competition in Zagreb brought him to international attention.
