Hailed for his natural ease and compelling musicianship, James Gaffigan is con sidered one of today’s most outstanding American conductors. He has attracted international attention for his prowess as a conductor of both opera and symphony orchestras. He was chief conductor of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester from 2011 until 2021 where he made a strong impact on the orchestra’s profile. He also holds posi tions as principal guest conductor of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera and music director of both the Verbier Junior Orchestra and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. Starting in 2023, he will serve as general music director of the Komische Oper Berlin.
