Yannick Nézet-Séguin is music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra, music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and artistic director and principal conductor of the Orchestre Métropolitain (Montreal).
Following studies in his native Montreal, Nézet-Séguin has worked extensively with leading Canadian and American orchestras. In Europe, he is a regular guest conductor of leading ensembles such as the Dresden Staatskapelle, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
A notable opera conductor, Nézet-Séguin has conducted at the Salzburg Festival (Roméo et Juliette and Don Giovanni), Teatro alla Scala (Roméo et Juliette), Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (Rusalka) and Netherlands Opera (The Makropoulos Case, Turandot and Don Carlo). He enjoys a close relationship with the Metropolitan Opera and has conducted Carmen, Don Carlo, Faust, La traviata and Rusalka. In 2011, he embarked on a major Mozart opera series for Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
Nézet-Séguin has made numerous acclaimed recordings with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. His honours include a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award, Canada’s highly coveted National Arts Centre Award and the Prix Denise-Pelletier, the highest distinction for the arts in Quebec, awarded by the Quebec government. In 2011, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Quebec in Montreal, and he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada in 2012.
