Sakari Oramo

Sakari Oramo is chief conductor of both the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestras. A guest conductor at the highest international level, he appears with orchestras such as l’Orchestre de Paris, Berliner Philharmoniker, Vienna Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic. Music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra between 1998 and 2008, Sakari Oramo has also served as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s honorary conductor since 2012 and has held the post of principal conductor with the West Coast Kokkola Opera and the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra. He is a prolific recording artist, his performances combining structural cohesion with authority, elegance and passionate delivery. On BIS Oramo’s numerous releases range from the symphonies of Elgar and Nielsen to the Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund’s opera Döbeln. On disc as well as in concert he continues to champion new works, collaborating with composers such as Brett Dean, Anders Hillborg and Victoria Borisova-Ollas.
