Based north of the Arctic Circle, in Bodø and Tromsø, the Arctic Philharmonic is the world’s northernmost professional orchestra. It regularly commissions new works and aims to present contemporary music with particular focus on the High North. Well known for its vibrant and playful performances, the orchestra plays about 200 concerts every year, appearing in formats ranging from smaller chamber groups to full symphony orchestra.
A growing discography includes recordings for BIS with artists such as Christian Lindberg, Anna Larsson and Roland Pöntinen. The orchestra also enjoys collabora tions with high-profile Norwegian artists across the genres, from pop legends a-ha to the avant-garde black metal band Ulver. The Arctic Philharmonic has made its presence felt internationally with tours to China and Japan, as well as performances at the most prestigious concert halls in Europe.
