Under the artistic directorship of Bjarte Eike, Barokksolistene (BaS) is an Early Music ensemble of flexible format, established in 2005. It serves as a platform on which its members may develop as artists and chamber musicians, offering the opportunity to perform in different formations such as chamber orchestra, pub band and crossover ensemble, as well as small and intimate chamber groups. Through its virtuosic and engaging style of performance, BaS communicates baroque music with a perfect naturalness to a wide audience; its concerts are frequently praised for their playfulness and originality.
BaS performs regularly at prestigious festivals and venues throughout Europe, and enjoys ongoing collaborations with other ensembles such as the New Opera in Esbjerg and I Fagiolini. For BIS the ensemble has previously recorded ‘London Calling’, a disc of music by Handel and his contemporaries [BIS-1997]. Barokksolistene receives substantial funding from Arts Council Norway.
