The Gävle Symphony Orchestra has played a significant role on the Swedish music scene since its inception in 1912. It currently numbers 52 musicians who take on a repertoire ranging from the baroque to the latest contemporary music with equal curiosity and dedication. The orchestra’s collaborations with composers-in-residence have had a particular impact beyond Gävle itself, while a number of recordings have brought older Swedish composers their well-deserved recognition. Since 2013, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra has enjoyed a fruitful musical partnership with principal conductor Jaime Martín, but the orchestra also collaborates regularly with renowned international conductors as Thomas Søndergård, Andrew Manze and Leif Segerstam. Visiting soloists during recent seasons include Isabelle van Keulen, François Leleux and Gabriela Montero. During Jaime Martín’s tenure, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra has also initiated a collaboration with the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir.
