Odense Symphony Orchestra

The Odense Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1946, but its origins go back to around 1800. Originally a theatre orchestra which also performed symphonic music, it has developed into a modern and constantly evolving symphony orchestra with a packed schedule. Its home is Odense Koncerthus, inaugurated in 1982. Most of the orchestra’s concerts take place in the splendid acoustics of the Carl Nielsen Hall, which seats 1,212 visitors and houses a large organ built by Marcussen & Søn.

The Odense Symphony Orchestra currently numbers 73 members, and gives some 100 concerts annually, with a repertoire ranging from the baroque to music from our own time. The orchestra has made tours to the USA and China, as well as to Germany, Greece, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and the former Soviet Union. An extensive discography of more than 60 titles to date includes several award-winning discs.
