Numbering a hundred players, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire (ONPL) gives more than 200 symphony concerts each season in Nantes and Angers, in the entire Pays du Loire region and internationally, for example in China, Japan and Germany. As well as performing symphonic works, the orchestra participates in productions at the Angers-Nantes Opéra and plays an active role in developing a taste for classical music in the youngest listeners. With more than 9,000 subscribers per season, the ONPL reaches out to one of the largest audiences in Europe. Since 2004 the orchestra has worked with an amateur choir numbering 74 singers and directed by Valérie Fayet. Known for his innovation and passion, chief conductor Pascal Rophé has made a significant contribution to the orchestra by focusing on major repertoire works, mixing genres (film concerts, shows with the CNDC [National Centre for Contemporary Dance] in Angers) and performing both in France (e.g. Philharmonie de Paris, Festival Musica de Strasbourg) and internationally (e.g. Japan and Germany).
