Youthful ardour and joy of discovery describe the Grammy-winning chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga, one of the finest ensembles from Northern Europe. Since its foundation in 2006, the orchestra’s artistic director has been Normunds Šnē. The musicians are enthusiastic advocates of music ranging from Viennese classicism to contemporary works.Sinfonietta Rīga often collaborates with guest conductors, including Paavo Järvi, Heinz Holliger, Olari Elts and Tõnu Kaljuste. Among the eminent soloists that have performed with the orchestra are Yevgeny Sudbin, Baiba Skride, Pekka Kuusisto, Sol Gabetta, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Christian Lindberg and Evelyn Glennie. The orchestra has close artistic ties with the Latvian Radio Choir and its conductor Sigvards Kļava.Sinfonietta Rīga performs across Latvia, the Baltic States and Scandinavia, and has played at major venues in Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, St Petersburg, New York, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.Conducted by Paavo Järvi, Sinfonietta Rīga has performed at the Pärnu Music Festival. It is a frequent guest at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, and together with the Latvian Radio Choir has performed at the festivals Lux Aeterna at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Kissinger Sommer in Bavaria.
