The Vamlingbo Quartet was born out of love for the breathtaking string quartet repertoire. During their studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, the cellist Erik Wahlgren invited his friends Andrej Power, Erik Arvinder and Riikka Repo to perform in the church of Vamlingbo on the southern tip of Gotland, an island in the Baltic Sea. This became the start of the Vamlingbo Chamber Music Festival, and ever since 2007 the quartet has returned regularly to the medieval arches of Vamlingbo church. The Vamlingbo Quartet appears regularly on the Swedish classical music scene, and has made tours in the neighbouring Nordic countries and Europe.
