Ariadne Daskalakis



Ariadne Daskalakis performs internationally on both baroque and modern violin. She has played at major venues around the world, appearing as soloist with ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Stuttgart and Dortmund, Ensemble Oriol Berlin, the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Athens National State Orchestra. In the dual role of leader and soloist she has worked with the Chamber Orchestras of Cologne, Stuttgart and Prague as well as the English Chamber Orchestra, and on period instruments with the Academy for Ancient Music Berlin, the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and Concerto Köln. A founding member of the Manon Quartett Berlin, she co-founded the period instrument group Ensemble Vintage Köln in 2009. An acclaimed discography documents Ariadne Daskalakis’ stylistic versatility in repertoire ranging from Vivaldi to Lutosławski and including concertos by Tartini as well as sonata cycles by Fauré and Handel. In 2015 BIS released her recording of Biber’s Rosary Sonatas which earned her praise in Early Music America: ‘With this release, Daskalakis propels herself into the front rank of historical violinists.’ She won prizes at the ARD International Competition and the St Louis Symphony Strings Competition, and received awards from the Mozart Society Dortmund, the Harvard Musical Association and Framingham State University. Ariadne Daskalakis enjoyed an education in music and humanities at the Juilliard School, Harvard University and the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Her mentors included Eric Rosenblith, Eugene Lehner and Ilan Gronich. In 2000 she became violin professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She is artistic director of the international chamber music festival Music from Land’s End Wareham (USA), and a regular guest at the Portland Bach Virtuosi Festival.
