Clarinettist Martin Fröst is widely recognised as an artist who constantly seeks new ways to reshape the classical music arena. Eager to challenge the conventions of the classical concert format, he is renowned for his multimedia performing projects. Fröst’s repertoire encompasses all of the standard clarinet works as well as a number of contemporary pieces that he has championed personally. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouworkest, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra. Among his regular collaborators in chamber music are Yuja Wang, Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes, Roland Pöntinen and Antoine Tamestit. He is invited to prestigious concert venues and festivals such as the Carnegie Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Verbier Festival and Mostly Mozart in New York, and has toured in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. In 2014, Fröst received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize, one of the world’s highest musical honours. The first clarinettist to be given the award, he joined a prestigious list of previous recipients including Igor Stravinsky and Sir Simon Rattle. Since 2019 Martin Fröst has also been chief conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
