Edin Karamazov was born in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A protégé of Sergiu Celibidache, he began his career as a classical guitarist before taking up the lute, which he studied with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. His virtuoso performances and interpretations on the lute and guitar range from the music of the 16th century to that of the present day. He has performed and recorded with leading ensembles and artists including the Hilliard Ensemble, Hespèrion XXI, Andreas Scholl as well as Sting and Kaliopi, and as an outstanding recital artist has appeared in many major venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, Philharmonie in Berlin and Konzerthaus in Vienna. He continues to enjoy giving impromptu performances on the street.
