The percussionist and cimbalom player Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen (HKKS) is a multi-talented performer. Within notated and improvised music he sings, recites, acts and plays the cimbalom while simultaneously mastering the timbres, rhythms and harmonic potential of his array of percussion instruments. HKKS has performed with orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Swedish Chamber Orchestra and all the major Norwegian orchestras, collaborating with conductors such as Pascal Rophé, Christian Eggen, John Adams and Thomas Søndergård. Among his partners in chamber music are Tanja Tetzlaff, Sharon Kam, Daniel Hope and Lars Vogt. HKKS has worked with composers including Per Nørgård, Brett Dean and Rolf Wallin. Among the awards he has received are CIEM (Geneva Competition) and Spellemannprisen for his solo album OPEN (BIS).
