Peter Kooij

Peter Kooij began his musical career as a choir boy. After learning the violin, he studied singing under Max van Egmond at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. Concert engagements have taken him to the world’s foremost musical venues, where he has sung under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, Frans Brüggen and Gustav Leonhardt. His numerous recordings feature not only most of Bach’s vocal works but also a repertoire that extends from Monteverdi to Kurt Weill including Auf dem Wasser zu singen, a Schubert recital on the BIS label. Peter Kooij is a professor at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and, since 2000, a guest lecturer at the Tokyo Geijutsu University. He has been invited to give masterclasses in Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Finland and Japan.
