Kavita Krishnamurti is an artist who has succeeded in proving herself in every musical field that she has chosen to enter, and has enthralled and dazzled audiences from around the world with her stage performances and recordings. Born in Delhi, she began her vocal training under Sri Balram Puri (in the Hindustani style of music) at a very young age. Her great talent was evident by the age of eight when she won her first gold medal at a competition. While in college, she started singing professionally on stage, and she began her recording career in 1971. Kavita Krishnamurti has sung over 15,000 songs and has contributed with her singing to countless films in both Hindi and Bengali, but also to Nepalese and Bangladeshi films. Many of her songs have become immensely popular. Her exquisite voice, wide range and versatility have taken her all around the world, including to the USA, UK, Europe, Africa, Australia, Far and Middle East and South America. She has performed in some of the most prestigious venues of the world including the Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and Singapore’s Esplanade.
Kavita Krishnamurti has received several awards and honours, including the coveted ‘Padmashree’ from the President of India in 2005. Following her marriage to Dr L. Subramaniam in 1999, she has explored and expanded her artistic range further. She was the main featured soloist on Subramaniam’s album Global Fusion, uniting musicians from all five inhabited continents, and has performed with orchestras such as the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra.
