As an international soloist and chamber musician Mats Lidström has gained a reputation for performances of great insight and virtuosity. He has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music since 1993 and is currently attached to Oxford University through his solo cello position with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and the Soloists of the Oxford Philharmonic. A distinguished and wide-ranging discography on different labels has received distinctions such as ‘Record of the Month’ (BBC Music Magazine) and the French Diapason d’Or.&&&

Their collaboration has resulted in several CDs, including the BIS recording of cello concertos by Kabalevsky and Khachaturian [BIS-719]. A prolific composer, Mats Lidström’s works are available, along with his transcriptions, educational material and recital pieces for young cellists, through his own publishing company CelloLid.com. He is the founder of the annual cello course EXPANSION.
Born in Sweden, Mats Lidström comes from a family with more than a hundred years of involvement with the arts: opera soloists, instrumentalists in principal positions, prima ballerinas, conductors and artists. One of his ancestors, Rickard Dybeck, wrote the words to the Swedish national anthem.
