Award-winning Ukrainian-British violist and conductor Maxim Rysanov has established himself as one of the world’s most vibrant and charismatic musicians. As a violist, he is among the most sought-after on the international music scene. Having performed as a soloist with world-class orchestras across the globe, he now enjoys a parallel conducting career which carries equal weight.His enthusiasm for new music generates many exciting collaborations which extend the viola repertoire. These include world premierès by Dobrinka Tabakova, Pēteris Vasks, Richard Dubugnon and Valentin Bibik. Other composers with whom he has developed a close working relationship include Benjamin Yusupov, Leonid Desyatnikov, Artem Vassiliev, Gabriel Prokofiev, Elena Langer and the late Giya Kancheli. Rysanov’s recordings have gained numerous award nominations including Grammy, ECHO and ICMA.
