Pétur Sakari is a Finnish concert organist from Helsinki. He studied the organ and improvisation in Finland with Tuomas Karjalainen and Kalevi Kiviniemi, and also in Paris with Vincent Warnier and Thierry Escaich. At the invitation of Olivier Latry, Pétur Sakari gave his début concert at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2017. In 2018 he played his début recital at the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg. He has received several international commendations for his solo recordings, including 5 de Diapason, Klassik Heute 10 and Recordings of the Year in Helsingin Sanomat and from the Finnish Broadcasting Company. Pétur Sakari has been chosen as the Young Artist of the Year at all the international organ festivals in Finland (Turku Organ, Lahti Organ, Pori Organ, Turku Cathedral). He has performed with various Finnish symphony orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, and has worked with leading opera singers such as Soile Isokoski, Jorma Hynninen and Ville Rusanen. Pétur Sakari has also combined symphonic organ music with poetry and modern dance, collaborating with the choreographer Jorma Uotinen. He also improvises music for silent movies. Pétur Sakari is also a cellist and performs regularly as a chamber musician. He studied the cello at the Helsinki Conservatory with Sami Mäkelä. He also studied the cello, folk music and composition at the Sibelius Academy. He is a member of the committee of the concert hall organ at the Helsinki Music Centre as well as being artistic director of the Helsinki Organ Festival and chairman of the Organum Society.
