Carolin Widmann



Carolin Widmann’s activities span the great classical concertos, new commissions, solo recitals, chamber music and, increasingly, period instrument performances. Orchestras with which she has performed include the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, and Vienna and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestras, with distinguished conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Chailly, Sir Roger Norrington, Vladimir Jurowski and Marek Janowski. She premièred Michael Zev Gordon’s Violin Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo. Carolin Widmann was named ‘Musician of the Year’ at the International Classical Music Awards in 2013, and since 2006 has been professor of violin at Leipzig’s University of Music and Theatre ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’.
