The Lahti Symphony Orchestra is proud of its traditions but also has an innovative attitude. At the heart of its activity is a wide-ranging series of symphony concerts, performances of lighter music and events for children and young people. The orchestra is based at the Sibelius Hall, famed for its outstanding acoustics. In recent decades its chief conductors (and artistic directors of the orchestra’s renowned Sibelius Festival) have been Osmo Vänskä, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Okko Kamu, Dima Slobodeniouk and, since 2021, Dalia Stasevska.
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra has appeared at many prestigious festivals and at leading venues all over the world, and has made numerous international tours to Japan, China, South Korea, the USA, South America and many European countries. In addition, its worldwide acclaim owes much to its extensive catalogue of recordings (notably of Sibelius and of the orchestra’s composer laureate Kalevi Aho) and online concerts.
