Founded in 1925, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is one of the leading orchestras in Sweden and consists of nearly 90 Swedish and international musicians. Since 2011 the MSO’s principal conductor has been Marc Soustrot. In 2015 the orchestra moved to the new and acoustically outstanding Malmö Live Concert Hall. While the traditional symphonic repertoire remains close to the orchestra’s heart, the MSO is also dedicated to bringing it into the future, collaborating with living composers as well as presenting new concert formats. The Malmö Symphony Orchestra has collaborated with eminent conductors and soloists over the years, including Sixten Ehrling, Vassily Sinaisky, Håkan Hardenberger and Bryn Terfel. An extensive discography has won international acclaim, and the orchestra’s previous recordings for BIS – for example with music by Alfred Schnittke and Gösta Nystroem – have gained distinctions such as the Cannes Classical Award and Diapason d’Or.
