Malena Ernman has appeared in operas and as a concert performer in such places as Stockholm, London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne under conductors including William Christie, René Jacobs, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Barenboim, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Gustavo Dudamel. She made her breakthrough in 1998 with a spectacular interpretation of the role of Kaja in the première of Sven-David Sandström’s Staden (The City) at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, where she later appeared as Rosina in The Barber of Seville and in the title roles of Carmen and La Cenerentola. Malena Ernman has the rare ability to move freely between different musical genres. Her repertoire includes music from the baroque era to the present day, and she is also an acclaimed performer of musicals, jazz and pop music.
